Board of Directors

iNova Credit Union is a democratic financial institution that operates with the best interests of our members, community and environment in mind.

iNova Credit Union’s Board of Directors is elected by and is accountable to the membership. It provides oversight and sets the strategic direction of the credit union. All directors are independent from management.

Any member in good standing may run for election and Directors are elected by members annually for a three-year term and can serve a maximum of three terms.

Mitchell

Mitchell Wells - Board of Directors Chair

Mitchell is employed with Employment and Social Development Canada as a Service Canada Benefits Officer working for the Employment Insurance program. He is a lifelong Credit Union member and has been serving as the chair of the iNova Board of Directors since spring 2023.

Erni

Erin Hancock - Vice Chair

Erin Hancock (she/her) is the Program Manager for Education with the International Centre for Co-operative Management (Sobey School of Business), Saint Mary’s University. She has previously also worked with Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada and the Measuring the Co-operative Difference Research Network. Currently, Erin chairs the Co-operative Social Responsibility Committee for iNova Credit Union (on the board since 2020). As well, she is President/Chairperson of the Community Housing Management

Jayme

Jayme Melrose - Secretary

Jayme Melrose was raised feral in the boreal forest of northern BC, by European parents who firmly believed in self-sufficiency, especially in regards to food.  She studied ecological horticulture and permaculture at Linnaea Farm School on Cortes Island, BC., followed with a Bachelor of Community Design from Dalhousie.  From 2011-2018 she was the Project Coordinator at Common Roots Urban Farm, Halifax NS.

Wayne Pace - Officer At Large


Mike

Mike Ansari - Director

Thirty years of banking experience in four countries, mainly in Credit and Risk, and business experience in Canada for over a decade. Twenty-five years of International banking experience in four countries, over ten years of them in senior positions, retiring as an SVP. He holds an MBA and several courses in credit.

Angela

Angela Franklin - Director

Angela has a diverse background with over 32 years’ operational and financial experience in industries including software development, angel investing, legal and marine. Currently working as Chief Financial Officer of a marine engineering resource company, administering a multi million-dollar contract with Public Works and Canadian Coast Guard. These experiences have provided her the opportunity to develop expert skills in areas of operations, finance, and strategy, and enables her to add value as a director in support of iNova Credit Union’s future success. Angela joined the iNova Board in 2017 and is Chair of the Credit Committee.

Justin

Justin Sampson - Director

Justin Sampson CPA is a Senior Manager (Commerical) for NS Power. Justin completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance & Economics at Mount Saint Vincent University. He also completed the Certified Management Accountant program and is a CPA. Justin was previously a board member with Electragas Credit Union before the merger with iNova.

Mariah

Mariah Pelley-Smith - Director

Mariah Pelley-Smith has been building brands since 2016, the Founder, CEO and Creative Director of multiple brand focused businesses. She guides businesses to merge their innate ability of vision, creativity and organization. She has worked with many businesses in almost every sector impacting the way people relate to branding. She believes that we should all treat businesses as a sacred act and make business decisions based on our alignment with our divine purpose.

Suzy

Suzy Hansen - Director

Suzy Hansen was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly for Halifax Needham in 2021.  She is currently the NDP Caucus Chair.  Ms. Hansen is a former board member of the Halifax Regional School Board and other boards and an active volunteer.  She is a member of the Community Services, Human Resources and Private and Local Bills Committees.
